Shivaź VPN Client Creating a Shivaź VPN Client 6.7 Configuration Disk and Custom Installation Settings Release 6.7 of the Shivaź VPN Client now stores the tunnel definition and client configuration information as a VPNuser.ini file. Earlier versions of the software stored this information in binary format; now it is available in text format. To create a VPNuser.ini file and client configuration disk, follow these steps: Install the Shiva VPN Client. Log on using the desired user name and password. Configure desired client settings and tunnels for the user. Copy the username folder with all the files in it from the following directory to a floppy disk: C:\Program Files\Intel\Shiva VPN Client\username Note: On computers where earlier versions of the Shiva VPN Client were installed, the username folder can be found in C:\Program Files\Isolation\ICDesk\username Install the Shiva VPN Client on a new PC and answer yes to "Have you been provided with a User Configuration disk?" These steps can be used when creating a generic user configuration disk for use by more than one user. To create a generic user disk, do not copy the solo.pwd file to the floppy disk. For version 6.7 or later, only the VPNuser.ini file must be copied to the user configuration disk. WARNING: Entering the Challenge Phrase for a tunnel on a generic configuration disk could open up a security risk should a disk be lost or stolen. Should anyone use a valid user name for the tunnel, they would be able to form a secure tunnel using the stolen disk. You should define all the Certificate Authority (CA) and tunnel information except for the challenge phrases. The end user should enter their unique challenge phrase information for tunnels or certificates. If authentication is through RADIUS or SecurID*, then this warning does not apply. Release 6.7 of the Shiva VPN Client supports customized automatic installation and configuration through the use of VPNclient.ini and VPNuser.ini files. For this feature to be supported, the VPNclient.ini and VPNuser.ini files must be in the same directory as the Shiva VPN Client's setup.exe file. The VPNclient.ini file must be created with a text editor. The VPNuser.ini file can be created either with a text editor or through the Shiva VPN Client GUI (Graphical User Interface) using the procedure at the beginning of this document. You can create a VPNclient.ini file for customized and advanced installations. This feature is useful when you have a large deployment of Shiva VPN Clients. Available options include: username= The user name to use for logon purposes: logon= boot:VPN Client logon required before windows startup screen shell: VPN Client logon required after windows startup screen none: do not launch the VPN Client software, recommended access= readonly: configuration cannot be modified by the user write: allows user to modify VPN Client configuration userdisk=
